Cala Llenya’s carpet of glistening white sand that stretches 190 metres long and 60 metres wide, is soft and inviting; the wide curve of sand lays within a valley of sloping fragrant pine trees. The seabed is predominantly sandy and the waters remain shallow for some way out, making it the perfect place to paddle and cool off in the afternoons.
With ‘llenya’ meaning ‘wood’ in Catalan, it’s likely the bay was named after the pine forest, which originally covered the area. The ideal beach to spend long lazy days, this beach is beautiful. The peaceful atmosphere on this beach makes it perfect to visit in the high season when other beaches can be overcrowded. Even in peak season this beach never gets too crowded. Popular with visitors and locals alike, many a family like to spend the day soaking up the sun on this beach.
The glistening turquoise water creates an ideal environment for swimmers and snorkellers. Pedalos are also available to rent so you can explore the shores taking in all the natural beauty above and below you. Windsurfing lessons are offered at Cala Llenya for those that love to play on the water or try the volleyball court if you prefer your activities on land.
Loungers and parasols are available for those looking for a relaxing ray-catching day. Other facilities include showers, toilets and drinking water. Lifeguards are usually on patrol in season to ensure safety. Disabled access is excellent at Cala Llenya, making it open for all to enjoy.
On the beach itself, there is a lovely little restaurant and beach bar, serving delicious paella (among other options), so good it needs to be ordered in advance when you arrive!
If you fancy getting off the beach for a bite to eat, San Carlos is home to the wonderful Anita’s Bar which is perfectly positioned at the turn off for beaches Cala Boix, Cala Mastella and Pou De Lleo as well as Cala Llenya. It is not too far to get to and offers the perfect end to a beautiful beach day of pure relaxation.
Located in the north-east of the Island, Cala Llenya is a 5 minute drive from Cala Mastella and a 5 minute drive from San Carlos. From Ibiza town, Cala Llenya is a 35 minute drive and from San Antonio, a 40 minute drive. Reached only by car, drive from Santa Eulalia to San Carlos and follow the road to the end of the village taking a right at the T-junction, then follow the signs to Cala Llenya. There is plenty of free parking under the shady pines.
