Beach Guide

Cala San Vicente

San Juan (North)

Up in the north of the island sits a stunning long, crescent-moon shaped beach. Positioned just below the north-eastern hills of Ibiza, meandering roads lead to Cala San Vicente, with picturesque views over dramatic cliffs on your approach.

With its soft light-golden sand and beautiful blue waters, Cala San Vicente beach is a vast expanse, lined with luscious palm trees and flecked with restaurants and hotels. The beautiful cliffs and lusciously green mountains surround the bay, giving the feeling of seclusion and privacy to help you unwind and relax.

Cala San Vicente magnetises visitors both local and international. This beautiful beach rarely gets overcrowded due to its size and location. However, something to take note of when planning your weekend trip is that traffic can get fairly busy by the cliff-side, so it is better to arrive early and spend the day there, or stick to mid-week visits in peak season.

Endless opportunities await you at Cala San Vicente. Enjoy boat tours, kayaking, pedalos, diving, bicycle rental and horse riding or just inhale some of the most striking views from the top of the cliffs. Enjoy a slow stroll up the mountains to take in all the natural beauty or just sit back and enjoy the soft pale sand, parasols and loungers are available. This beach is relatively wheelchair accessible.

The seclusion of this bay is historic. This bizarre French story is the best example of how isolated the bay has been. They say that 'es Francès de sa Cala', – a confessed murderer – also named ‘sa loco’, meaning ‘the crazy’ in Catalan, arrived in Sant Vicent in 1932, dressed elegantly, pulling a mule loaded with bizarre objects. The fear of revenge had supposedly driven him mad and he fled as far as he could from France to hide from the world and his own past. He renamed himself and built a house near the beach. Four years later, by chance, he was assassinated, thought to be a spy by French militia who had no idea of his real identity. Had it not been for this wild turn of fate, he would likely have remained ‘the crazy of the bay’ for many decades. At least until the mid-sixties, when the road to Labritja was opened and Sant Vicent ceased to be so isolated and hotels and tourism grew in the area. This small stony cove became sandy and large, but the death of 'es Francès de sa Cala', who is still buried in the local cemetery reminds us of a truth that is still valid… Although there is always the possibility of being found, Cala San Vicente is an extraordinary place to hide and go unnoticed…

For those seeking true exclusivity in the area now, Tagomago can been spotted from Cala San Vicente – an Idyllic private isle loved by Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and some of the most successful business leaders in the world. At 98 acres (0.39km2) in size, Tagomago Island (Illa de Tagomago) is located just five minutes by boat, and homes a luxury five-bedroom villa, which can accommodate up to 10 people. Surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters, the villa has spacious living and dining areas for guests. The island rental includes full board and round-the-clock service from two chefs, a personal butler, two maids, a boat captain, a gardener and a mechanic as well as helicopter transfers from Ibiza's airport. The lavish pad boasts a fully-stocked bar, swimming pool, outdoor whirlpool, sauna and spectacular sea views all around. There is a private beach and small bar on the west, a small yacht, two boats and two jet skis. A 109-year-old lighthouse on the edge of the island is still used as a landmark by sailors. Guests have option to charter the 108ft/33m, fully staffed superyacht. This is the ultimate retreat for those who love Ibiza, but demand the ultimate level of privacy. The island can also be hired daily for special events. Tagomago is truly idyllic.
